Information, Referral
and Public Awareness
The Arc offers an extensive referral network of information
and assistance to families seeking services for their child
while also providing information on mental retardation and other developmental disabilities to
the general public. Our Resource Room provides access to computer
stations with Internet capabilities for members to conduct
research and identify available resources. In addition, our
web site contains valuable links to resources, as well as
a process to directly request assistance from The Arc of Greater
Houston. The Arc also publishes a quarterly newsletter that
updates our members on programs and services, staff activities,
and provides information on current topics.
Legislative and Systems Advocacy
The Arc of Greater Houston represents people with cognitive,
intellectual and developmental disabilities at the national,
state and local legislative level. The Arc educates legislative
representatives and other decision makers about the needs
of people with mental retardation and other developmental
disabilities. In addition, we educate parents and family members
on ways to impact the decision making process. The Arc also
monitors legislation, favorable and unfavorable, at the federal,
state, and local levels. |
