Annual Open Board Meeting
January 19, 2010
At this year's annual meeting, The Arc of Greater Houston was honored to have Barbara Davis, the Assistant Deputy Director of MHMRA, provide timely information on the transition of HCS (Home and Communitiy Services - a medicaid waiver program) case management services from HCS providers to local MRAs (Mental Retardation Authorities).
We learned that MHMRA of Harris County is diligently preparing for this change and will be ready to fulfill their obligations with the hiring of 61 case managers who will be fully trained and ready to work by June 1st of 2010.

The Annual Open Board Meeting:
January 20, 2009
The Arc of Greater Houston was pleased to have Lynne Cleveland, the president of The Arc of the US and a board director of The Arc of Greater Houston, present timely information on the current status of intellectual and related developmental disabilities in our local, state and national community.
Ms. Cleveland outlined the critical role that The Arc of the US has had in the creation of national legislation addressing the rights of all individuals with disabilities. It is through the continued, concerted efforts of The Arc that individuals with intellectual and related developmental disabilities have been and will continue to be assured that their voices are reflected in the laws governing areas such as community living, medicaid, special education and criminal justice procedures.
Finally, the partnering relationship between The Arc of the US and The Arc of Greater Houston must continue its' strong bonds. With our shared organizational knowledge, connections and missions we have the power to help individuals live independent lives with opportunities for full community inclusion

Mr. Lopez and indeed the Kroger chain itself have done tremendous work in assuring that individuals with intellectual disabilities have success and meaningful compensation in the job arena. They have gone many extra miles to embrace and enhance the lives of individuals with special needs and we are truly thankful for their unfailing support.
