The Arc of Greater Houston's Resource Guide [November 2007 Edition]

The Resource Guide Nov 2007 Resource Guide(pdf) provides national, state and local resources for individuals with disabilities and their families. Educational resources have top priority but many other financial, medical and social information links are also included. Updates to the guide will be posted on this web page- so you may want to visit this page again (annual visits recommended) for newer editions.

Another Useful Resource -The Arc of Texas and Advocacy Inc. have published a manual explaining an important law governing the rights of qualified students who have special needs in public school settings. This law is commonly referred to as The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the manual gives an excellent overview of its contents. Some of the topics covered include the special education referral and the ARD process, sample letters to obtain a child's school records and procedural safeguards.
